Ken and Laurie Janson participated in the first Mary’s Walk in 1999, and soon became volunteers in the grassroots fundraising effort. Started by Gene Libby as a tribute to his wife, Mary, after she succumbed to Burkitt’s Lymphoma, the annual event quickly became a signature community effort. A 2016 diagnosis of esophageal cancer put a new spin on life for Ken

and his family. After  years  of  volunteerism  in

support of those fighting cancer,  suddenly  this

new challenge loomed on the horizon. A war was

declared, and with the help of many people, some

known and some strangers, the battle was waged.

This true story  chronicles Ken’s cancer  journey,

the fundraising performed by Mary’s Walk, with

its many volunteers and supporters, and also pays

homage to the many doctors, nurses, and

technicians that confront cancer daily.
