Plywood backer boards screwed to brick.

Paint grade poplar attached to plywood nailers

Brick hearth primed and painted, first coat on poplar and wall trim paint started.

More layers of trim and crown moulding added, with priming and painting along the way.

Making progress, but need a special mantle...

...and a piece of live edge cherry slab is perfect.
